The first Magellan fly was tied in the San Juan restaurant in Huangelen, Argentina. Using the feathers of the magellan goose, Dan Gapen Sr.'s object was to entice the local fish called pejerrey. Next this new creation would be used on the brown trout of the mountainous Patagonia region of Argentina.
Created in July of 2007, this new fly has gone on to produce stunning results on North American brook trout, rainbows, browns, atlantic salmon and char.
It is the barred feathers of the Magellan goose, which create the natural barring of baitfish.
