Crawfish Jig
Dan Gapen, Sr. spent 8 years tying, testing and re-tying this lure. It works on any gamefish, which feed on crawfish. Nothing attracts and entices fish to strike better than natural deerhair and feathers. Combined these features with the patented, SNAG-FREE wedge-head of this lures relative, the UGLY BUG jig, and you've created a monster fish catcher.
Smallmouth bass fight over the "real" crawfish jig, brook trout devour it, walleye can't resist it, and largemouth relish it. There isn't a gamefish which can't be caught on it; this includes SALTWATER species such as bonefish, weakfish, snapper, spots and all the others which prowl your favorite flat.
The wedge-head from Gapen allows you to fish bottom structure where crawfish live. Because you can get in tight to the structure and bounce, tear and swim the jig off the structure, you will catch more fish and fewer snags. The combination of the tipping jig, the dancing hair and the crawfish jig swimming action, all drive big game fish to strike and attack!
The quality is amazing and you can't get a better fly jig on the market for imitating the crawfish, one of Gapen's favorite jigs.
Working the Real Crawfish Jig:
Crawfish are a bottom-dwelling critter. This imitator must be worked down in the rocks where crawfish live. Rocks provide protection and a place of ambush for food and home for this bottom creature. The "real" crawfish jig, due to its rock-walking, snagless head, allows the angler a chance to imitate the crawfish in looks and action. Work the "real" crawfish jig with the current in rivers. Such action best imitates the natural action taken by crawfish as current sweeps them downstream. If your retrieve is upstream, do so in as slow of an action as possible. This will keep the jig in contact with bottom 70% of the time. When working rocky lake reefs, try working the "real" crawfish jig from the deep into the shallow areas. This best represents the actions taken by crawfish when pursued by feeding fish.
